Business Rules Engine List and Locations
Business rules engines (BRE) for servicer administrators are located in different locations within InvoicingSM. However, once in a BRE, the steps for managing rule sets and rules are the same for each BRE.
The following BREs can be set up and maintained by both servicer administrators and super administrators with the appropriate permission groups assigned.
Client Maintenance BREs
The following BREs are accessed from the Client Maintenance menu.
Check Request BRE
Click Client Maintenance, Payment Processing, then Check Request.
The Check Request BRE establishes check/Automated Clearing House (ACH) request options. There are 13 rule types within the Check Request BRE. Based on servicing platform and guidance from Implementations, you will use one or more of these rule types.

Servicer Guidelines BRE (View Only)
Click Client Maintenance, Guideline Maintenance, then Configure Guidelines.
The Servicer Guideline BRE is used to determine which guidelines to use for loan type and department and for exception creation.
You create the business rules within the Servicer Guideline BRE to tell InvoicingSM which guidelines to apply and in which order to apply them. These rules serve as a default condition for the servicer guidelines.
The Servicer Guidelines BRE is view-only for servicer administrators.
Investor Guidelines BRE (View Only)
Click Client Maintenance, Guideline Maintenance, then Configure Guidelines.
The Investor Guideline BRE is used in conjunction with the Investor guidelines to generate exceptions based upon guideline conditions, as well as invoice, line item, and loan level conditions.
The business rules within the Investor Guideline BRE are created to tell the InvoicingSM application which guidelines to apply and in which order to apply them. These rules serve as a default condition for the investor guidelines.
The Investor Guidelines BRE is view only for servicer administrators. Only a ICE administrator can edit the rule set and rules of this BRE.
Client Setup BREs
The following BREs are accessed from the Client Setup menu.
Invoice Circulation BRE
Click Client Setup then Invoice Circulation Options.
The Invoice Circulation BRE sets up the routing of outsourced invoices to queues.
Rules you create within this BRE, are used to control servicer invoice guidelines specific to certain vendors, loan types, states, departments, invoice types, or property zip codes.
Auto Approve BRE
Click Client Setup then Auto Approve Setup.
The Auto Approve BRE sets up options to automatically approve invoices.
There are three types of Business Rules Engines that allow users to establish rules related to automatic approval:
Auto Approve
Creating a rule set within this rule type enables invoices without exceptions to be auto approved after the Vendor has approved the last adjustment.
This feature is useful when you want to retain control over the line item per invoice review process before the invoice is approved. If you do not want to review line items and give the vendor more control, a similar feature called Instant Auto Approval is available.
Instant Auto Approval
Creating a rule set within this rule type will allow invoices with no exceptions to be instant auto approved when the invoice is submitted.
This feature does not allow you to review line items per invoice before the approval happens. If you want to auto approve invoices but keep control over the line item adjustment process, review the auto approval process instead. Zero amount invoices that are auto-approved are excluded from the check request process.
Outsourcer Instant Auto Approval
Creating a rule set within this rule type will allow invoices to be instant auto approved after an Outsourcer, handling the loan on behalf of the servicer, approves the invoice. Zero amount invoices that are auto-approved are excluded from the check request process.
Auto Deny Upon Invoice Submission BRE
Click Client Setup then Auto Deny Upon Submission Setup.
The Auto Deny Upon Invoice Submission BRE removes the ability to continue with invoice submission when an auto-deny condition exists. The rules within this BRE are typically tied to an exception.
Invoice Submission Exception BRE (View Only)
Click Client Setup then Invoice Submission Exception Setup.
The Invoice Submission Exception Setup business rule engine enables super administrators to define how InvoicingSM will validate invoices upon submission.
The Invoice Submission Exception Setup BRE is view only for servicer administrators. Only a ICE administrator can edit the rule set and rules of this BRE.
Business rules can be configured to trigger exceptions for invoices based upon zip codes, seasons, foreclosure/bankruptcy types, old invoices/line items, servicer loan alert exceptions, active foreclosures/ bankruptcies, or by predefined milestones as defined within the invoice submission rule set. Additionally, business rules can be created to route invoices to a work queue based on an exception.
There are three business rule types within the Invoice Submission Exception Setup BRE:
Auto Adjust
This rule type is set up to automatically adjust a line item amount to pay down to the allowable cap, or zero, when no documentation has been attached to account for the higher amount. Auto adjust functionality is not available for the general services department.
Invoice Exceptions
This rule type is set to validate an invoice upon submission and trigger an exception based on the business rules defined.
Line Item Exceptions
This rule type is set to validate a line item upon submission and trigger an exception based on the business rules defined.
